1. Use AAC to Say Out Loud:
“Dad, I love you!” “Thank you!“
2. Shared Book Reading:
Read a Father’s Day-themed picture book together.
Children can use AAC to express ideas from the story, such as: Dad can’t pick me up — “what do we do?”, Dad asked someone to “help,” “don’t + worry.”
3. Make a Father’s Day Card:
When drawing, you can ask the child whether they want to draw eyes, a nose, or hair. But you can also use AAC to discuss preferences: do you want “big” eyes or “small” eyes? “Long” hair or “short” hair?
Emergent Literacy!
Write words on the card together with the child. This exposes children to written language early, helping them understand that words have meaning and sound!
