Hsiao-Ting is a licensed speech-language pathologist from Taiwan, currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on communication and literacy instruction for individuals with communication disorders. She provides assessment and intervention for language, articulation, swallowing, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for children and adults with special needs. Her clients include individuals with language disorders, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, and other diagnoses.
She has worked in hospitals and related institutions in Taiwan, as well as school clinics, special schools, and general elementary schools in the United States. She has also participated in the Pittsburgh AAC Summer Camp and the Michigan Literacy & AAC Summer Camp, helping children build communication and language skills.
In the United States, Hsiao-Ting has seen how individuals with severe disabilities, multiple disabilities, and minimal verbal communication can have effective communication tools through AAC. She hopes to share her experiences and learnings here, so that more people can learn about AAC, and to continue promoting augmentative and alternative communication concepts and practices in Taiwan.
