Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms!
Mother’s Day calls for AAC too!
Core vocabulary for Mother’s Day: mom, I, love, you, thank you, help
The power of core vocabulary is that just a few words can be combined into so many messages!
1. Say It to Mom
The most important part of AAC instruction is meaningful communication. Use AAC to say out loud:
“Mom, I love you. Thank you.”
2. Shared Book Reading
AAC users also have the right to learn to read!
Mother’s Day picture books: Guess How Much I Love You, The Runaway Bunny, Hug
While reading together, narrate the story verbally and model vocabulary on the AAC system. Start by modeling just one word at a time, such as “love” or “you.”
3. Make a Mother’s Day Card
You can create with AAC too!
Organize and express your thoughts in writing — for example: “Mom I love you,” “Thank you for helping me.”
The teacher or communication partner can help write these on the card.
